“Set in the heart of the village, the house is located on a long narrow site sloping from the street to the Shannon Estuary to the north. The design approach consisted of reinstating the original four room plan to house the sleeping quarters and creating a new extension accessed from the side lane accommodating the living areas. A ramped, glazed link connects old and new, creating a south-facing courtyard.  The extension comprises a pair of intersecting single and two storey blocks that respond to the site constraints to maximise both solar gain to the south and the panoramic river views to the north.”
